Salt Lake City Award-Winning Newborn Photographer, Heather Pickett Photography
I’ve embarked on a new journey. Ever since earning my Certified Professional Photographer from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), I have been acutely aware of the technical strengths and weaknesses of photographs. I have taken this awareness to a whole new level as I’ve entered print competition. It has been such a fun way to grow and refine my craft. I recently entered the International Photographic Competition (IPC) that is held by PPA. Approximately 5200 photos were submitted by some of the top photographers in the nation. Each photographer can enter a maximum of four photos to be judged. Each photo is scrutinized based on 12 technical principles. Only the best photographs are accepted to the Merit Collection – this year only 37% percent of the photos were accepted. Three of my four images were selected into the Merit Collection. Yea! Then, once all of the initial entries are judged for the Merit Collection the judges go through these photos to choose the best of the best to be entered into the Loan Collection. The Loan Collection consists of the very most technically correct and emotionally stimulating photographs that were entered into the competition. Approximately only 20% of all of the photos entered into the competition were accepted in the Loan Collection. I was thrilled, ecstatic, and totally elated to have TWO of my photos selected to be included in the Loan Collection. These results are incredible!
Adding to the incredible results is the fact that all of my photos were created during real client sessions with the purpose of creating beautiful artwork for my clients. A lot of photographers will do photo sessions with models to shoot specifically for competition. There is nothing wrong with doing that, but I am thrilled to be able to create these kinds of award-winning images during my client sessions. You can know that when you book a session with me, you are receiving artwork that is technically sound and as perfect as can be. My goal is to have each session have award-winning caliber images. I am so grateful to have such wonderful, patient clients who let me perfect each pose and lighting angle during our photoshoots. Thank you, thank you!
